Pool Water Problems

A few quick ideas on different water problems and some ways to fix them.

Green murky water is usually algae. Shock and a good poly 60 algaecide should take care of green murky water.

Green translucent water is typically a sign of copper in the water. There are test kits for this problem. If you have a heater on your pool make sure you check your pH because usually bad pH is eating away at the heater causing the copper in the heat exchanger to be put into the pool, not a good problem!

Cloudy water has lots of potential reasons, most common of which is not enough chlorine. Check your chemical levels and add some chlorine.

Reddish/Brown water is water that has either iron or manganese in it. The chlorine used to oxidize and clean/disinfect your pool water is also causing the iron to get rusty. Iron or manganese can sometimes be present in the source water you use to fill your pool. A sequestering or a chelating agent can be used to tie up the metal in the water and make it easier for your filter to trap those ions in there particular filtering media.

One thing to ALWAYS keep in mind, NEVER ADD WATER TO CHEMICALS, ALWAYS ADD CHEMICALS TO WATER!
